πππππππ ππππ ππππ πππππππππππβ‘ On this day, 27th June 1976, Diamond Head was formed. I had decided to form a band with my best friend, Duncan Scott. We had our minimal gear set up in my bedroom. Duncan played a home-made drum kit, and I played through my brother Daveβs Linear Concord amp, plugged into a 3" speaker rescued from a rubbish bin. Sean Harris was a school friend whom we auditioned to be the singer, and he was given the job. We had three bass players leave for university before I persuaded my old mate, Colin Kimberley, to learn the instrument and join us in early 1978. Itβs never easy to get a band off the ground. In 1977, we played three gigs, then two the following year, but by 1979 we played a massive twenty gigs and were ready to be discovered as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. I am very proud to say that here we are, hundreds of gigs and nine studio albums later. Diamond Head has existed, in one way or another, for fifty years β quite an achievement. I have known bands that didnβt even make it out of the rehearsal room. In my experience, one of the hardest things is keeping a band together. Thank you to all the musicians, crew, and backroom staff who helped keep the dream alive, many of whom have become lifelong friends, and to the fans who bought our records and concert tickets over the years. A big shout-out to Diamond Headβs number one fans, Mike and Julie Lace, who have so far seen the band 282 times!
