Letting Myself Die Here

The wind does not touch my skin The sky closes in without a sound I feel the earth pulling me down Each breath is slower than the last The trees no longer recognize my form The light retreats behind the hills I speak but nothing leaves my mouth I am the weight I cannot carry Time no longer moves around me My thoughts decay before they end The soil welcomes what I offer I forget the shape of warmth There is no message in this stillness Only the echo of what was The end does not demand a witness I let myself vanish with the dust
