Once there was a town both intellectual and agrarian The home of proud laborers, eager students, farmers and professors Soon its ski slopes became famous and its beauty shined The wealthy came to vacation and the powerful came to relax Property values climbed, houses were as valuable as gold The workers wince, a tiny wage was now not enough As strangers imposed new values both foreign and ugly the bitterness between both parties became acidic "I wish we have stayed forgotten forever!" The town folk cried instantly how foolish they sounded "Californians an East Coasters bought it all!" The old timers exclaimed as if they didn't see it coming A new generation competed to look wealthy in school The jacket from last years wasn't enough to gain status Rich kids suddenly had all the friends and praise The poor children better learn how to fight to be left alone Each year brought more hardships and disappointment The world was changing against all small town will Soon the ways of the old town were completely displaced The city folk I reckon had come and done swallowed them up
